12 Great Horror Movie Shorts You Need To See
6. Safe Haven
Safe Haven, directed by Timo Tjahjanto and Gareth Huw Evans of The Raid fame, is a masterclass in tension building. In this short from the VHS 2 anthology movie, a film crew investigates a mysterious cult and, as these things normally do, the situation grows steadily stranger and more dangerous.
Our protagonists often find themselves separated from one another, meaning characters almost never have the full picture of what’s going on whereas we can feel the full weight of the danger hanging over these characters' head. The film has a thick, horrifying level of dramatic irony therefore that keeps the horror building until its fierce brutality rears its ugly head. It makes for a brilliant, well-paced tale that far exceeds anything else in the VHS series.
