12 Hidden Horror Movie Gems Of The Last Decade
4. The Babysitter
This Netflix original from 2017 not only embraces horror movie and teen comedy tropes, it leans into them, consciously attacking them head on. The Babysitter doesn't waste any time denying exactly what it is - a fun horror comedy, acting almost as a parody of itself.
Coming from Charlie's Angels and Terminator Salvation director McG, The Babysitter almost feels like Home Alone on acid, as 12 year old Cole has to defend himself from intruders in the form of his babysitter Bee and her friends. The movie soon develops into a cult story, with Bee having to make blood sacrifices in order to get whatever she wants.
While it may be a bit too silly for some, as long as you go into it with leveled expectations, it is incredibly enjoyable. With copious amounts of blood and gore, including a man being stabbed through the skull, someone being impaled by a trophy, and a shotgun to the head, the movie is something reminiscent of a good old slasher from the 80's.
