12 Horror Movie Sets That Were Definitely Cursed
12. The Innkeepers
While director Ti West was shooting his acclaimed horror homage The House of the Devil he and his cast and crew stayed at a real-life haunted hotel, the Yankee Pedlar Inn in Torrington, Connecticut.
Built in 1891, both staff and guests at the historic hotel have experienced supernatural goings-on over the years from ghostly apparitions and strange phantom smells to rocking chairs moving on their own and doors opening and closing by themselves.
Being a seasoned horror director, West lapped up the scary stories and got the inspiration for his next movie The Innkeepers. Set and filmed at the Yankee Pedlar Inn, it tells the tale of its final days in business during which two employees and paranormal enthusiasts are determined to uncover the mystery of its resident ghost.
Naturally, it made logistical sense for cast and crew to stay at to stay at the hotel once more and they too became victim to its paranormal activity. West’s TV would turn on and off spontaneously and lights would constantly burn out in his room and star Sara Paxton would wake up in the middle of the night, while many crew members were plagued with vivid dreams throughout filming.
Seems the spooks that reside at the Yankee Pedlar Inn weren’t quite ready for big screen stardom just yet.
