Box Office: $723.2 million Though Alfonso Cuaron's Oscar-winning sci-fi masterpiece was an undeniable artistic gamble, the results paid off with some of the best reviews of the decade and a box office that proved yet again there was an audience for ambitious, intelligent sci-fi fare. While that's one reason that Deadpool's narrow victory is so surprising, it's more that the movie starred two bonafide A-listers in Sandra Bullock and George freaking Clooney. On paper, who is more likely to put butts in seats, two beloved Oscar-winners or Ryan Reynolds putting his cute mug behind a mask and/or prosthetics for almost the entire movie, co-starring with that bloke from the new Transporter movie and a mixed martial artist with limited acting experience? It's utterly mind-blowing, but valuably lets studios know that there's a hungry audience out there craving big-budget, R-rated entertainment, and superhero movies aren't just for kids (duh). Which of Deadpool's box office victories shocked you the most? Shout it out in the comments!
