Though Kong's latest outing was an utterly mediocre blockbuster film you've probably already forgotten, it played broadly enough across a wide enough audience range that it easily crossed the half-billion mark and currently sits as the twelfth highest-grossing movie of 2017.

A generic blockbuster getting beaten out by a brutal R-rated horror movie starring mostly little-known actors and featuring extremely sensitive subject matter isn't something you hear every day, as It recently barrelled past Kong to claim the #10 spot for 2017's movies.
