Considering that the last three Pirates movies grossed at least $960 million each, it seemed like a slam dunk that the long-gestating fifth outing would post similar results.

However, the aforementioned blockbuster fatigue and lessening popularity of Johnny Depp no doubt contributed to the latest effort pulling in a more modest, if still extremely successful, $767.4 million.

This in fact places it much closer to the $654.2 million gross of the original 2003 movie than the sequels, suggesting that the series' bubble has finally burst.

Jack Sparrow just seemed like one of those sure things who would probably always post insane profits, but ultimately taste won out and Wonder Woman was able to skid past.
