Nominated For: Best Film Editing. IMDB Ranking: #22 Rotten Tomatoes: 84% Ask any film lover about their favourite films from the 1990s and most will probably list David Fincher's Se7en amongst them. A dark and dreary thriller set in a decaying city where rain is seemingly perpetual, Se7en focuses on two detectives on the trail of a serial killer obsessed with the seven deadly sins. Se7en was a box office smash, and was highly acclaimed by critics and fans alike. Particularly praised were the performances of its cast: Brad Pitt as a smart-mouthed young detective recently transferred to the city; Morgan Freeman as his old, unmarried, unfulfilled partner, for which this case will be his last before retirement; and Kevin Spacey in the unbilled role of John Doe, the serial killer and self-appointed prophet of God. The Academy, however, didn't feel so strongly about the picture, only nominating it for one award: Best Film Editing, which it lost to Apollo 13.
