Jason Momoa is inspired casting as Arthur Curry, the King Of Atlatnis. As a character Aquaman is criminally underused in the comics, with most creative teams siding with the general fan feeling that he's kind of a joke. Like, a guy who can breath underwater and talk to fish? Whoop-dee-doo, what a loser. Let's go check out Batman instead, since his sidekick isn't a chatty manta ray. Which is a shame, because it's doing the character a real disservice. As such you have to reach back a little in Aquaman's history to find the classic storylines, the ones that might be suitable to bring to life with Momoa and with Furious 7 director James Wan as frontrunner to helm it, there's one arc in particular that's perfect. 2004's American Tidal skips over an origin story (which the movie would do well to because, really, who cares about origins in this day and age) and instead set up a new status quo for the character, with half of San Diego submerged in an earthquake. Aquaman sets up shop as the defender of underwater city Sub Diego, with a diverse and interesting supporting cast to boot.
