12. Forgettable Villains

It's probably the most common complaint about the MCU, so let's get it out of the way right now: for every Loki, Winter Soldier and Helmut Zemo, there's a Whiplash, Malekith, Ronan and Yellowjacket to name just a few.

In short, Marvel Studios have a real problem with creating compelling villains, which is shameful given the huge pool of material they have to draw from.

It simply seems that so many of these movies get so wrapped up in getting the heroes right that they figure audiences will forgive some woefully generic baddies, and going by the critical and commercial success of the mammoth franchise to date, they mostly seem to be right.

The first Guardians in particular featured one of the worst MCU villains to date in Ronan, and hopefully the second movie's antagonist (rumoured to be Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha) will have a little more meat on her bones.
