12 MCU Characters Who Almost Looked WAY Cooler

7. Ronan The Accuser

This is an early Ronan concept design version I did on the 1st Guardians of the Galaxy film. That was a special time fairly early in the MCU. It was such an unknown property. I love that Ronan will be back in the new Captain Marvel film next year. #ronan #guardiansofthegalaxy #captainmarveledit #conceptart #costumedesign #conceptdesign #illustration #characterdesign #digitalart #그림 #그림스타그램 #아트 #marvel #marvelstudios

Less than a year after Thor: The Dark World painfully disappointed in the villain department, Guardians of the Galaxy followed suit with Ronan the Accuser. The Kree warlord with the passionate hatred of Xandar had the potential to be a strong character, but fell way short of expectation.

Ultimately acting as a puppet on the hand of the Mad Titan, Thanos, Ronan came off as little more than a bratty teenager. Even with his second appearance in Captain Marvel, the character was unable to offer anything new or leave any kind of lasting impression.

Would a different design have made Ronan a good character? No. But it certainly would have gone a long way toward helping. This concept art shows the Accuser as a physically dominating, intimidating specimen, who wouldn't have needed Thanos to fight his battles for him. Almost reminiscent of Ultron juicing up, or Ben Affleck's beefier version of Batman, this would have given another dimension to Ronan, and at least a base for building a stronger character.
