12. Sausage Party

From its opening moments Sausage Party, the absurd R-rated “Toy Story with talking food” adult animation film from 2016, seems to be laughing at its own audience for buying into its absurd premise.

The flick never really explains its central conceit and uses the idea as a launching board for some sophomoric humour and puerile set pieces. But Sausage Party takes this approach up a notch when proceedings culminate in an extended sex scene which is designed to amplify how stupid we all are for even watching the movie in the first place.

It could have all been delightfully dumb, but between allegations of the filmmakers never paying animators for the flick and some seriously tasteless analogies for the ongoing Palestinian occupation, this one really leaves a gross taste behind.
