12. Wonder Woman – Steve’s Noble Sacrifice

One of the great things about Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman – the first female-led superhero movie since the ill-fated likes of Catwoman and Elektra – is that we’re left with no doubt as to who is the real hero of the story. It’s Wonder Woman in case you didn’t figure it out.

That’s not to say the movie is female-focused to the point of feminazism though. In fact, one of Wonder Woman’s most touching elements is Diana’s romantic subplot with American pilot Steve Trevor as their relationship blossoms from flirtation to true love.

In fact, it’s Diana’s obvious affection for Steve and her reaction over his sacrifice that makes his eventual death all the more heart-breaking. Well, that and the fact he gave his own life by hijacking a German bomber plane loaded to the brim with super-deadly mustard gas and blowing it up before it could obliterate London. Yeah, that was a bit of a tear-jerker too.
