Though the film is painfully under-appreciated (it's not great by any means but it's also not a complete disaster), you really have to admire what Thomas Jane put himself through to become the titular star of 2004's The Punisher.

The actor teamed up with Mike Mello, a California cop and SWAT-tactics trainer who put him through intense military-style preparation, with multiple martial art disciplines and military psychology, including studying the ways of the samurai. And you probably didn't even watch his film.

He also bulked up by 20 pounds - all muscle - thanks to a strict diet of up to eight meals a day of protein, beans and salad (no chicken, no fruit and no sugar) and intense PT training that got him bench-pressing 275 pounds.
