After Jennifer Lawrence won an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook and proved to everyone she could actually play a compelling adult character, movie studios started tripping over themselves to offer her roles she was utterly ill-suited for.

Lawrence failed to convince as a blowsy housewife in American Hustle, but earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod anyway, causing director David O. Russell to cast her as divorced mother-of-two and Miracle Mop inventor Joe Mangano in his follow-up, Joy.

The thing is, Mangano was 34 years old when she invented the Miracle Mop, yet Lawrence was a whole decade younger when filming began, and her youth is distractingly noticeable in the final movie.

As the cherub-faced Lawrence tries to act tough and intimidating, it's more laughable than intense, though that didn't stop her receiving an inexplicable Best Actress Oscar nomination for her work.

As talented as Lawrence is, she desperately needs to start playing characters better attuned to her actual age.
