6. Amanda Waller's Homicidal Ways - Suicide Squad

The Revelation: After being rescued by the Suicide Squad, government official Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) executes four of her staffers out of nowhere.

Why It Was Surprising: Because up to this point, Waller seemed like a calculating, opportunistic official who wouldn't personally get her hands all that dirty, and then all of a sudden she commits four counts of murder without even flinching, all because they didn't have clearance.

Ever since Suicide Squad's release, fans have debated whether the scene was a tonally jarring remnant left in from a darker cut of the film, or if it in fact suited Waller's callous comic book characterisation.

Whatever your own verdict, it was sure as Hell both sudden and surprising.
