12 Predictions For Marvel's Mystery Phase 3 Movies In 2020

4. Ghost Rider

Columbia Pictures

Imagine a world where Nic Cage could ruin two Ghost Rider films and someone would still suggest that there was life left in the property... That seems to be the world we're currently living in, as Kevin Feige announced that Marvel's retention of the Ghost Rider, Punisher and Blade rights was a good thing for the future of their film-making plans.

So does that mean we're going to see a third attempt at the supernatural badass, this time under the official Marvel banner? Clearly they'd need to work slightly harder on the script and treat the character with the right reverence, instead of making a B-Movie or a self-conscious black comedy.

Tone is very much the key here, and given that Marvel managed to make a Thor film that wasn't a big flamboyant joke, they have the capacity to treat Ghost Rider properly too.

Likelihood

Marvel might be excited about having the rights back - or so Feige claims - but fans will be harder to convince. Nic Cage tends to leave lasting scars (sometimes they're actually good), and it would be a major gamble for the company to invest in Ghost Rider even five years from there in a stand-alone movie.

Having him cameo somewhere else first to test the waters would be infinitely more likely.
