DC Comics

It's something of a shame that Batman v Superman went slightly supernatural with the introduction of Doomsday Lite, because the weirder side of the universe should have been left as the remit of a far stranger bunch of characters. And Justice League Dark would be an incredible addition to the DCEU, even in that context.

The team - led by John Constantine as almost the only necessary constant (because he deserves it after the sh*t he's been dragged through) - would offer DC the chance to expand into strangeness the same way Doctor Strange has for the MCU. And to mark some difference, they should do it in a more grown up, more outrageous way that suits Constantine as a character.

And that means an R and some genuine white-knuckle scares.

For a while, it actually looked like we would be getting a JLD movie from Guillermo Del Toro, which would probably have been sufficiently horror-focused to guarantee an R. But he's gone now and Doug Liman is the latest name attached, which suggests an entirely different tone.

He does have some previous with grown-up film-making, but it'll be interesting to see if he reverts back to his early R-rated days rather than the artfully concealed PG-13 work on Bourne, Edge Of Tomorrow and Mr & Mrs Smith. Let's just say only one of those approaches would wholly work.
