Few people would admit they loved Deanna Troi-focused episodes; fewer still would admit to looking forward to the next time her mother Lwaxana beamed on board. Loud, brash and the bane of every character on the ship - the less said about her trips to Deep Space Nine the better - she was a character that could easily set audiences' teeth on edge. Being the wife of Gene Roddenberry must have had its advantages, and Majel Barrett was clearly having a whale of a time playing Lwaxana. Gene Roddenberry certainly agreed, so much so that he pitched an idea of a Lwaxana Troi sitcom to the Sci-Fi Channel when it was still in development. Yes, you heard that right. Just what this show would be about - and who would watch it - would baffle anyone. Yet you can imagine Lwaxana striding into a room in a garish costume, laugh track rolling. Poor Mr. Homm would be silently groaning in the corner by the time she had uttered her first line. Sadly for Gene Roddenberry, the Sci-Fi channel was still in development when he died in 1991 and any ideas for the show failed to come to fruition. Which is probably a good thing.
