7. Meryl Streep Almost Died Filming Into The Woods

Meryl Streep is of course widely known for throwing herself completely into her roles, and that goes a long way to explain her insane 18 Oscar nominations and 3 wins over the course of her storied career. Streep is practically a lock for another nomination for her part as The Witch in Rob Marshall's adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's classic, Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods, but according to fellow cast member James Corden, it almost ended up being a posthumous nomination. During a Q&A for the movie at an awards screening, Corden claimed that when Streep was performing her character's opening scene, she got a little too into the theatricality of it, and after jumping up onto a table, stumbled and began to fall back towards the ground. Corden said, "She€™s leaping and jumping up on things and coming up and getting into your face. And she leaps onto the table€catches her shoe in the dress, and starts to fall back headfirst towards this stone floor...And time slowed down and I thought, €˜I€™m about to watch Meryl Streep die.€™€ Thankfully while Corden was frozen in place, his pregnant co-star Emily Blunt saved the day, catching Streep just before she plunged to the ground.
