2. Greene's Death Is Brilliantly Savage
Quantum of Solace is divisive among fans for its depiction of Bond as a "thug": that is to say, a more brutal, haunted, hostile version of the spy than we've ever seen prior.
It doesn't always strike the right note - the aforementioned Mathis dumpster dive in particular - but his leaving Dominic Greene to die in the desert is the right kind of deliciously ice-cold.
Bond drives off, leaving Greene with a can of motor oil should he get thirsty, and at the very end of the film it's revealed that Greene is later found dead in the desert, having being shot (presumably by Quantum) with oil in his stomach.
Considering most Bond baddies are killed off in rather bombastic fashion, 007 abandoning Greene to a grimmer off-screen fate has a greater staying power. Again, it's a shame it wasn't reserved for a better villain or, indeed, a better movie.
