12 Trash Movies (That You Definitely Love Anyway)

1. Mamma Mia!

Universal

Boiled down to a story, Mamma Mia isn't all that great. Taken only as a set of musical performances, it's nothing special. If you look at the acting performances, not a thing stands out. And it's hardly profoundly shot or designed.

It's essentially just an excuse for Abba fans to have a sing-along in the sunshine while some questionably musically "gifted" actors warble their way through the hits. It's basically holiday karaoke, without the shame-protecting confidence of whatever local tipple is strong and cheap.

But like a package holiday with all-you-can-eat buffets and bottomless drinks, it's a kitsch pleasure akin to a family Christmas or Thanksgiving. Yes, it's loud and silly and not everyone is entirely your cup of tea, but you can't help but let it wash over you. And you'll likely let your feet tap even without intending to.
