Much like The Hitman's Bodyguard, this ensemble heist thriller was a quintessential "modest hit", grossing a not-bad $80 million against an impressively svelte $30 million budget, though hardly enough for anyone to seriously expect a sequel to actually be made.
What We Know
In February 2018 - just a month after the first film hit cinemas - Den of Thieves 2 was confirmed, with writer-director Christian Gudegast set to return alongside front-line cast members Gerard Butler, O'Shea Jackson Jr and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.
The plot will reportedly see Butler's corrupt cop chasing O'Shea's thief across Europe as he prepares to pull off a daring diamond heist, but beyond that there's little word on when production might start or who might fill out the supporting cast.
This definitely feels like a movie that needs to strike fast while people still remember the original - do they even now? - so one can't imagine STXfilms will sit on it for too much longer.
