12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies

12. Tobey Maguire - Peter Parker/Spiderman

To be fair, Tobey Maguire wasn't terrible as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he did capture some elements of the struggle in living a secret life quite well, but his take on the character was far from the multi-layered smart-talking hero of the comic books. Peter Parker is a unique character in that he starts off being a geeky and naive kid who grows up to enjoy being Spider-Man. Whilst everyone definitely got more than enough geeky awkwardness from Maguire's performance (to a fault at times), his Spider-Man was mopey and whiny instead of fun and exciting. All of Parker's trademark wise-cracks and cock-sure arrogance were nowhere to be seen and Maguire's Spider-Man took on a more 'woe-is-me' kind of vibe instead. And for all the comments about his youthful looks, Maguire (and Andrew Garfield for that matter) is just too old to convincingly pass off as a young Peter Parker. And just for all those people defending Maguire's Spider-Man, just remember that awful emo haircut and that terrible dance sequence in Spider-Man 3.
