7. I Know What You Did Last Summer
The Original: Hot off the success of his 1996 hit Scream, screenwriter Kevin Williamson churned out an adaptation of Lois Duncan's 1973 suspense novel I Know What You Did Last Summer, re-imagined as an homage to 80s slasher films.
Despite being more than a bit rubbish, the pretty young cast and throwback vibe made it a stonking box office success, and a cash-in sequel - the hilariously-titled I Still Know What You Did Last Summer - was curled out without Williamson's involvement.
There's also a third one, 2006's DTV offering I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, but we don't talk about that.
The Remake: In-demand horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Gerald's Game, The Haunting of Hill House) will team with his regular screenwriting collaborator Jeff Howard to create a spiritual re-imagining of sorts, directly adapting neither Duncan's source novel nor the previous movie.
But considering that Flanagan's one of the most distinctive voices in the genre right now - he's currently in post-production on The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep - it's easy to be optimistic about this one.
At worst, it'll probably be a decent improvement over the original, but it has a strong chance to be something truly great, too.
