4. Prisoners Of The Ghostland
The Pitch: Legendary Japanese director Sion Sono (Love Exposure, Cold Fish) makes his English language debut, teaming with Nicolas Cage (!) for this action-thriller about a man who must battle ghosts and break an ancient curse in order to rescue the governor’s daughter.
Will It Be Any Good?: In Cage's own words, it "might be the wildest movie [he’s] ever made", adding that it was "unlike anything [he's] ever read before."
Cage will apparently spend the movie wearing a skin-tight black leather jumpsuit with grenades attached to various body parts, and if he fails in his mission, the governor's people will blow him sky high.
That's a yes, then.
This has the potential to be the Escape from New York of its era, and with Sono directing, there's no way it won't tout a flagrantly subversive, bats*** crazy tone.
Sono and Cage together is a match made in heaven, and might even allow Cage to out-Cage his performance in last year's brilliant Mandy.
