Why It Deserves Best Picture: Noah Baumbach's new dramedy is another fantastically witty examination of contemporary family dynamics, brought surging to life by a marvelous ensemble cast, especially Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and, yes, Adam Sandler.

It's easily one of the sharpest and most consistent things Baumbach has ever made, and far more relatable than its upper-class fancies might initially suggest.

Why It Won't Get Nominated: Despite almost all of Baumbach's movies being strongly acclaimed, he's never really caught on with the Academy, so there's little reason to believe he will now.

Also, the movie being released straight to Netflix will undeniably harm its chances, considering how many industry figures are still staunchly opposed to the streaming platform releasing major movies day-and-date.
