Even long before Captain Marvel was brought to the MCU, another character sharing her name was being pushed as a potential future star too.
After Captain Marvel was announced, Kevin Feige was pretty quick to confirm that Marvel Studios were already planning for Ms Marvel's introduction (though inevitably he was a little guarded on the details).
We know Marvel are looking at more female-centric properties, so this would make sense.
Hopes
It would be great to think that Marvel might be looking to seed either a Champions or Young Avengers film project, so having Ms Marvel set that up would be a great start.
And making sure that the titular hero isn't introduced as a sort of side-kick would be a smart move: we're already looking at Captain America's future possibilities being somewhat undermined by the way Bucky and Falcon have been treated in their MCU movies and anything like that approach (or even the faintest whiff of her being a "replacement" character) would be needlessly reductive.
