What We Knew
In the wake of the stunning success of Logan, James Mangold said that he would like to see X-23 appear in future X-Men films, and expressed his desire to involved in one way or another. And then in October, 2017, he confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that a script for an X-23 spinoff movie was being worked on after Fox were impressed with Wonder Woman's success for Warner Bros.
Other than that, all we reallt knew was that X-23 creator Craig Kyle could possible have been involved alongside Mangold.
Why It Was Cancelled & The Future
Buried in the thread about the X-Men spin-offs being cancelled, Daniel RPK also confirmed that X-23 is dead.
If Marvel are clever, they'll keep Dafne Keen's X-23 involved in the future X-Men movies. It would be an easy win, even if there's no hint of it happening just yet.
