Nominations: There's incredibly little to debate about this one: it's going after the Best Documentary Oscar, and that's all that needs to be said. 1 nomination. The Win: Though Scientology is an incredibly controversial subject in Hollywood, it's also worth considering that a large quotient of Oscar voters aren't famous actors blackmailed into remaining members of the Church of Scientology, and may wish to help expose it by rewarding the damning doc with a win. Sure, this time last year everyone thought Life Itself had the documentary field sewn up, and the doc branch can be a tad unpredictable, but the movie's sheer incisive verve puts it right at the top of the pack. 1 win.
