13 Movies That Are Destined To Disappoint In 2019

4. Rocketman

Paramount Pictures

Though Taron Egerton certainly looks the part in this Elton John biopic, there's also the sinking feeling that Rocketman is going to end up another Bohemian Rhapsody: an entertaining yet safe and neutered film which sanitises the more R-rated aspects of the singer's life.

Perhaps coincidentally, Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who finished shooting Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired mid-production. The script has meanwhile been written by Billy Elliott playwright Lee Hall, who in recent years has delivered so-so scripts for the milquetoast likes of War Horse and Victoria & Abdul.

If the Queen biopic proved anything, it's that you don't need critical approval to make $750+ million worldwide and win a Best Picture (Drama) Golden Globe. Go figure.

So while it seems that Rocketman may be another Wikipedia entry of a movie, it'll probably still be warmly embraced by the mainstream (while everyone else will be left shaking their heads).
