3. The Dark Knight Rises "Foresees" The Occupy Wall Street Movement

The Movie: Christopher Nolan's final Batman film sees terrorist Bane (Tom Hardy) galvanising Gotham's citizens to "take back their city" by robbing from and killing Gotham's rich and elite, leading to memorable scenes in which the wealthy are literally torn from their homes and dragged into the streets, and of course, Bane performs a stock transaction which essentially bankrupts Bruce. The Release: The iconic Occupy Wall Street movement, which protested wealth inequality and political corruption, kicked off in September 2011, long after TDKR had started filming, and so when the film released the very next summer, Occupy was still very much in the public consciousness. Batman himself, Christian Bale, expressed amazement at Nolan somehow foreseeing the movement, though the movie's depiction of such a movement in a negative light (a violent army lead by a madman) has caused many to label TDKR a deeply conservative film, concerned with the preservation of the rich and suppression of revolutionaries. Nolan, naturally, has distanced himself from indicating any such commentary was deliberate.
