After making the excellent The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Andrew Dominik turned his hand to neo-noir crime with Brad Pitt at the front of a stunning cast (with Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendehlson, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins, and Ray Liotta among others).
And what he made scored him an F with CinemaScore, which is precisely the kind of thing that explains why they say openly that they have a margin of error.
Did It Deserve It?
Not even slightly. The film is a stylish, darkly comic thriller with as much brains as it has brawn (there's a pertinent economic climate commentary in there that adds a lot) and some great performances. It more than made its budget back, scored a fairly respectable 70%+ score on RottenTomatoes and it's still a joy to watch now.
The F is an anomaly.
