Grossing just $34.3 million worldwide, it didn't even manage to recoup its $43 million budget, likely killing off the English-language Millennium series for good, if not a damn long time.
The film isn't particularly good, but trashy, easily digestible thrillers turn solid profits all the time, so that something with such brand identity tanked so hard is a real testament to how little people cared about its resurrection, especially without original stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig.
