13 Things Hollywood Always Gets Wrong About Film Fans

We don't love explosions, sequels, reboots, 3D and nudity. Okay, well maybe that last one.

When will Hollywood ever learn? Every year they churn out mega-budget spectacle, charting what works and what doesn't, with a massive portion of the internet dedicated to the industry to see exactly what is failing and why, and yet still only a few actually working in Hollywood even seem to understand what film fans want. Is it really that hard? Sure, us film fans might often follow as sheep and will venture to your popcorn fests regardless of how many of them have Vin Diesel in, but that does not make you less incorrect about what your audience actually wants. Our inadequacies in resisting the kind of brain-off, snacks-out fare that regularly fills the multiplexes should be taken as no indication that that is all we ever want, and if the Hollywood power players paid a little more attention to what they get right, and a little less to what they get wrong, they might be surprised how many more millions they can stockpile as a result. There are exceptions to every one of these rules, but as a whole, these are based on facts. So take note, Movie Elite, here are a few things that Hollywood has simply gotten wrong about their beloved film fans...

13. We Do Not Need Endless Remakes

Look, we are thrilled that you have found a few classics in the reserves that needed a tune-up - that is sincerely fantastic - but do you need to remake or reboot everything? Virtually every single film your audience worshipped as a kid has either been remade, rebooted or is in the pipeline to be remade or rebooted. Just stop it. Running out of original ideas is about the only justification for remaking films like Footloose or Psycho, especially when they're both so painfully inferior. We are all for remaking bad films (think Endless Love) or reinventing established but stale franchises (even counting RoboCop) and attempting to inject something fresh into that stale material, but please save it for those exceptions. You guys carry the keys to the castle and can obviously do whatever you choose, forcing us to accept that all we movie fans can do is cry in our bowl of childhood memories and pray you stay clear of Gremlins and Back To The Future. Where does this madness stop? The Godfather? The Matrix? Indiana Jones? How long until Harry Potter gets a new life and we go back to year 1 and start it all over again? Because you just know some studio executive is plotting away on that one right now as you read this. Let's put the Xerox away for just a bit and give 'Original Ideas' a chance, shall we? You never know... you might just accidentally create a brand new franchise, like The Raid, which will inevitably see a wholly unnecessary English Language Remake.
