After Terminator Genisys grossed just $89.76 million domestically, it seemed like this might be the final nail in the coffin for the once-beloved franchise: after all, even the widely-dismissed Terminator Salvation made $125.32 million in the US. However, almost two months after it hit U.S. cinemas, Genisys opened to huge business in China, ultimately making $112.8 million and bringing the movie's worldwide total to a surprisingly decent $440.6 million (outgrossing both previous films). China going nuts for Arnie has essentially bailed the series out, ensuring that the planned sixth film will absolutely happen, and that a good chunk of the film will more than likely be set in China, because when 25% of a movie's gross comes from one country, you've gotta keep those folks happy.
