13 Upcoming Movie Sequels We Really Don’t Need

By Jack Pooley /

12. Planes: Fire & Rescue (July 18)

Many will argue that we never really needed the first Planes film, given that it was a lazy spin-off of Pixar's least-acclaimed property, the Cars franchise. Still, Planes made Cars look like a masterpiece by comparison, with DisneyToon Studios (the company behind most of those inferior straight-to-video sequels to great Disney films) delivering an offensively bland and almost completely charmless animated offering. To rub salt in the wound, the sequel, Planes: Fire & Rescue, was announced as being in production before the first movie was even released. Planes somehow made over four-times its budget back at the box office, ensuring this franchise could be a sweet little money-maker for Disney. The only hope Fire & Rescue might be any better than its predecessor is that they've somehow roped in Ed Harris for a role, but even then, bad animated movies are an easy way for actors to make a quick paycheck without losing face, so who knows?
