4. A More Adult Tone

One of the calling cards of a Marvel film is its humour and sense of fun for the whole family. Remember, we don€™t actually know that this will work, we€™re merely observing the ways in which DC is trying to differentiate themselves. In this case, they may have gone a tad overboard.

This tone in question probably isn€™t really the best suited to all of their characters, but it€™s clear that DC is making a concerted effort to distance themselves from Marvel and this is one way to do that. They€™re attempting to create adult dramas that just so happen to star superheroes and it€™s unclear if that€™s going to work out.

Nevertheless, for all of the acclaim Marvel gets, their tone is likely the biggest thing holding them back come awards season. We€™re not about to proclaim Suicide Squad the next Dark Knight, but it€™s clear that for those types of accolades, this kind of tone is valued more.
