Civil War is one of Marvel's most epic and successful story arcs to date. It was a spectacular 2006-2007 storyline which occurred following the implementation of the Superhuman Registration Act in the Marvel universe a legislative bill which required any superhumans to register themselves as such, but saw a conflict occur between those behind the idea and those against it. It had the tagline "Whose Side Are You On?" The bill was implemented due to a number of facts - primarily the fact that superheroes who were essentially vigilantes were causing damage to property, and indeed people, and the bill would render them accountable for and insured for such events, and the fact that it would ensure they were properly trained and earned a salary in the same way as other public servicemen like the police and fire service. It brought a number of high-profile heroes, who were formerly good friends, to blows - quite literally. With Captain America on one side (the side against the idea of the bill) and Iron Man on the other side (the side for the bill - although he was initially against it), the two heroes led armies of heroes with the same views as them in a war against each other and an epic final battle between Captain America and Iron Man brought things to a close.
