14 Awesome 2015 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

Why It Should Have Sucked: This adaptation of John Green's novel basically screamed "Gone Girl for kids" and, like Green's The Fault in Our Stars, appeared to feature self-consciously hip characters spouting dialogue nobody would in real life. Above all else, it felt like a desperate rush to cash-in on the Fault in Our Stars success before it was too late. Plus, Cara Delevingne was still a massively unknown quantity as far as acting goes... Why It Was Awesome: You can put all those worries about Delevingne to rest: she's a fantastically natural presence here, and so it's inevitably something of a shame that she's off-screen for the majority of the movie. What's most surprising is that the film actually offers some genuine insight about coming-of-age and how we as people view one another, often in idealised forms. The performances are solid across the board, with the chemistry between protagonist Q and his buddies being particularly entertaining. Most of all, it's not the vapid, mopey tween drama you might be expecting, but a mature work of surprising depth.
