The Plot: Married couple Karel Horák (Jan Hartl) and Božena Horáková (Veronika Žilková) sadly cannot conceive, but when Karel digs up a tree stump that somewhat resembles a baby, his wife name it Otik and treats it like a real baby. Soon enough, the stump comes to life, and things get truly weird... Most WTF Moment: It's tough to settle on just one, but in a movie where a woman breastfeeds a log and the "baby" eats a cat, the most peculiar scene involves the neighbour's daughter deciding how to feed Otik, settling on a local paedophile, who he summarily devours. Yes, Otik eats people (and cats, too). Why It's Awesome: It's such a fantastic melding of fairy tale and grim comedy, a rare combination that totally works for the right audience, even if it's continually skating on thin narrative ice sense-wise. Still, you'll probably be laughing so much you won't much care: it's one of the most superbly strange films of the 2000s.
