12. Shmi Is Raped By Midichlorians (The Phantom Menace)
The Scene: When Qui-Gon asks Anakin's mother Shmi who the father is, she replies, "There was no father. I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him. I can't explain what happened." That's right, if the movie is to be believed, the midichrlorians essentially "willed" Anakin into existence in order to bring balance to the Force. Why It's Creepy: Because while it's somewhat amusing to accept an alternate explanation, that Shmi simply pounded one too many Daiquiris and ended up sleeping with one of the locals, the vaguely canonical one suggests that Shmi was essentially raped by midichlorians in order to facilitate Anakin's birth. No wonder he ended up such an a**hole... It's surprising this plot point hasn't proven more controversial with fans, and likely wouldn't fly were the movie released now. And what if Shmi had just decided to abort her phantom pregnancy? The whole thing is just really uneasy.
