What It's About: A human cop Ward (Will Smith) and his Orc partner Jakoby (Joel Edgerton) team up to fend off a supernatural force that threatens the fate of the world.

Why It Might Save Hollywood: Netflix has bankrolled this oddball fantasy thriller to the insane tune of $90 million, have stocked it with an all-star cast (also including Noomi Rapace and Edgar Ramirez) and apparently given director David Ayer free rein to deliver whatever the Hell he wants.

While it's definitely a risky prospect considering the budget, the fact it's written by Max Landis (Chronicle, Victor Frankenstein) and that Ayer's last film (Suicide Squad) was a major disappointment, it's clear that Ayer won't be manhandled by studio execs this time, and if nothing else, it will be a rallying cry for originality in Hollywood.

If it's also good, that'll be the icing on the cake.
