The Role: A single mother who desperately attempts to rescue her son from a curse left in a vacant house in their neighbourhood.
Andrea Riseborough might be one of the most under-appreciated actresses of her generation, turning in consistently impressive performances in movies both good and bad, most memorably Shadow Dancer and the recent Black Mirror episode "Crocodile."
She's been due a major Hollywood breakout for a while, so it's a bit of a shame her first major starring role in a studio genre film is...a reboot of The Grudge franchise nobody really asked for.
Riseborough's protagonist will most certainly end up taking a backseat to generic detective tosh and predictable jump scares, but hopefully she at least got a handsome salary out of it.
