Some action movies are so awesome that you find yourself compelled to watch them over and over again, determined to discover two things: who made it, and what the hell were they thinking? We are not talking about the Die Hards and Terminators of the genre but the little seen, low-budget oddities that usually come from overseas. Staggering in their incoherence, breathless in their pursuit of the lowest common denominator and laugh out loud hilarious at all other times, these are the films the true fan files away under Guilty Pleasures. It takes talent to turn a generic plot into a mind-numbing spectacle where a washed-up performer encounters masked assailants with chainsaws, naked female kung-fu assassins and a cackling scientist with a giant laser, and talent should always be acknowledged, no matter how wayward it might be. Without these filmmakers, wed be living in a world where every action movie is Resident Evil or Transformers, which doesnt bear thinking about. Most articles in this vein encourage you to point and laugh at the featured films, but in this case you should attempt to track them down because they are the giddiest, most insane fun time you will ever have outside of a cinema (especially if Fantastic Fours playing). Watch with alcohol and friends, and a terrific time will be had by all.
