What We Know: This follow-up to the 1986 cheese classic has been in active development for over five years, with Tom Cruise committed to return. Since Tony Scott's suicide in 2012, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been on the lookout for a new director, while screenwriter Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) has been working on the script since late 2014.

Why It Won't Happen: Cruise always has an absurd number of projects on the go, and with Mission: Impossible, Jack Reacher and potentially The Mummy inviting sequel after sequel for the foreseeable future, it's hard to see where he'd actually cram this in.This just feels like one of those projects that'll constantly change hands between writers because the parites can't agree on a script.
