Ahead of becoming a full-on A-lister with his upcoming starring role in Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman again reminds everyone of how chameleonic an actor he is, following up his mesmerising work as Jackie Robinson in last year's 42 with an even more jaw-droppingly convincing turn as James freaking Brown. Never for a second of Get on Up's 139-minute run-time is Boseman anything but the spitting image of the soul legend, perfectly mimicking the various behavioural tics and vocal intonations of the man. Though this is absolutely a case of a performance that anchors and completely outfoxes the rest of the movie, it's still a turn absolutely worthy of Oscar contention. Many expected that Boseman might have had to settle for a Golden Globe nod instead, though he sadly missed out on that as well, despite delivering one of the finest performances in a biopic of the last decade or so.
