Release Date: August 6 (US), August 7 (UK) The Plot: Ricki (Meryl Streep) is a "mature" woman who decides to abandon her family and become a rock star, though has a reality check when her ex-husband Pete (Kevin Kline) asks her to check in on their estranged, divorced daughter Julie (Mamie Gummer, Streep's real-life daughter). Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Because it's Jonathan Demme's (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia) first major movie since 2008's Rachel Getting Married, and though Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body, Young Adult) is a hit-and-miss screenwriter, at her best she could absolutely nail quirky material like this. Streep is pretty much guaranteed to score an Oscar nomination as long as the movie is half-way decent, and alongside Kline and Gummer, she's also joined by Sebastian Stan and legendary musician Rick Springfield. Surely it has to be better than Into the Woods, right?
