Why It's Awful: Despite Ryan Reynolds trying hard in the title role, this just isn't anywhere near as fun or exciting as a movie about a guy being able to conjure objects out of thin air should be. In addition, it's too reliant on exposition to do its world-building, and the visual effects, despite the $200 million budget, look goofy and awful, especially Reynolds' entirely-CGI Lantern suit. The romance sucks, the action is a digital blur, and worst of all, Green Lantern is an immensely forgettable blockbuster dud. The Remake: Though Warner Bros. won't be likely to take another chance on this anytime soon following the original's colossal box office failure, the rumours of an upcoming Green Lantern-Flash crossover movie at least suggest that, if that movie is a hit, they might give it a chance somewhere down the line. The keys to success are simple: go in with a more conservative budget (say $100 million) to avoid bloated visual excesses, keep Reynolds in the role, give him a physical suit, make it funny but more witty than goofy (like Iron Man), and don't overwhelm viewers with explanatory dialogue: let them figure out some of it for themselves.
