There was much speculation prior to shooting began on Thor: Ragnarok whether or not Anthony Hopkins would actually return, given the rather ambiguous fate of his character Odin in Thor: The Dark World.

Hopkins was thankfully eventually confirmed, and set photos have since shown him traipsing around Earth dressed down in clothes that are very un-Asgard, and having a generally bedraggled appearance.

What could the reason be for this? Has Odin being ousted from his throne caused him to abscond to Earth and seek out Thor? That would make a certain amount of sense and has an undeniable amount of comic potential too.
