8. Splitting The Final Book Into Two Movies - The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Allegiant arrived at the very beginning of the summer (which seemingly gets earlier every year) on a tidal wave of indifference, because the Divergent movies have all been thoroughly terrible, and as a result nobody really wanted to see the final book split into two movies.

Why It's Dumb: Well, for one it totally backfired: Allegiant was a box office bomb and as such the final movie, Ascendant, is now being made as a lower-budget TV film.

When even The Hunger Games franchise under-performed due to this double-dipping nonsense, what chance did something as bad as the Divergent franchise ever have?

Summit Entertainment got greedy and paid the price, as keeping the final book as one movie would almost certainly have resulted in a significantly stronger box office, especially if the marketing focused on it being the end of the saga.
